Bankers Hill-Park West Traffic and Circulation

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Uptown Partnership is interested in developing a proposal with Bankers Hill-Park West on how to increase parking opportunities, calm traffic, reduce congestion, promote walking and biking, increase pedestrian safety, and improve neighbhorhood appearance.

PROJECT GOALS

  • Receive neighborhood feedback and develop projects designed to address speeding cars, congested streets, unsafe intersections, and streetscape aesthetics.

PROJECT INFORMATION

Background
In FY 2009-10, the City Council approved the Partnership’s Implementation Plan that includes $488,200 for the project titled Bankers Hill-Park West Parking and Circulation. The project description is “install traffic calming enhancements to improve vehicle and pedestrian movement consistent with existing recommendations and guidelines.” The project serves the purpose of increasing parking opportunities for residents, visitors, and employees within the Uptown Community Parking District as well as promoting alternative forms of transportation to reduce parking demand that will create a safer Bankers Hill-Park West neighborhood.

Meetings & Dialogue
On February 23, 2010 the Partnership hosted a meeting to review different strategies to improve the Bankers Hill-Park West neighborhood for inclusion in the FY 2010-11 Implementation Plan. The meeting reviewed several neighborhood draft proposals and was a starting point for discussion on how to proceed.

Tenative Timeline

  • March 2 | Present Planning and Projects Committee with ideas gathered at February 23, 2010 workshop
  • March 17 | The Planning and Projects Committee will review ideas submitted to Uptown Partnership by all neighborhoods in Uptown and recommends a project plan and budget to the Board of Directors for review and adoption.
  • April 2010 | The Board of Directors will vote on the FY 2010-11 Implementation Plan, which is then forwarded to the City Council for confirmation in June 2010.
